Vectors

The Center encompasses three primary vectors towards its mission:

Research:
As the key focus of the Center, civilizational research underpins all activities. The Center engages in three institutional mechanisms for knowledge generation and dissemination::
  • initiated research by permanent scholars;
  • occasional research by visiting scholars; and
  • channel research by affiliated but non-resident, contributing scholars.

Education:
    The Center’s vision is one that can best be disseminated as a process, rather than through one-off mechanisms. The Center’s educational engagement focuses on Pakistan as well as regionally and globally.
    • Undergraduate (mostly in Pakistan): design, develop and deliver courses in cultural studies and gender studies for undergraduates pursuing first degrees in natural science, applied science, social science, or arts/ humanities. The Center works in collaboration with mainstream, preferably public sector, universities and colleges to design special courses for all students as electives or supporting minors. The Center also designs, develops and coordinates delivery of an undergraduate major or minor offering in Cultural Studies for interested universities.
    • Postgraduate (nationally and internationally): design, develop and coordinate delivery of an MA degree in Cultural Studies in Pakistan. Again, no one university or college may have a critical mass of students for this, but a joint mechanism may be evolved nationally. The Center can also design, develop and deliver specific courses on Cultural Studies and Gender Studies to MA students in related fields in Pakistan. Internationally, with a focus on South Asia, the Center’s team is already engaged in offering courses on gender, religion, culture and Islam, and may extend this engagement.
    • Teaching Seminars (nationally and internationally): design, develop and deliver teaching seminars on these topics to groups of postgraduate students in Pakistan and internationally. Such teaching seminars may be part of degree programs (mostly at Masters’ level) or independent, non-credit offerings.
    • Supervision of Research Students (nationally and internationally): supervise, advise or examine MPhil/ PhD (or equivalent) candidates on related topics in universities in Pakistan and overseas.

Dialog:
The Center actively works to open and employ a space for dialogue as a means to disseminate and apply its vision. Dialogue is be consciously aimed at free exchange feeding from and into research and education, through two primary mechanisms:
  • Dialog: organize academic symposia and conferences, general seminars, and public lectures.
  • Policy advice: engage and advise policy and decision-makers on related issues.
